4 Tips for Helping Your Eyes Heal Effectively After Eye Surgery

by Hugh Larson

If you are going to have Lasik eye surgery soon, you are going to want to make sure that you are prepared ahead of time for the healing process. Here are a few tips that will help you heal more effectively from your eye surgery.

#1 Protect Your Eyes From Light

One of the most important things that you need to do is make sure that you are protecting your eyes. Your eyes are going to be much more sensitive to lights, especially bright lights, after your surgery. You are going to want to make sure that you have a nice pair of glasses that will protect you from ultraviolet rays. You may also want to have a set of polarized sunglasses as well. You may want to wear sunglasses inside as well as outside; the lights in your home are brighter than you think. This will allow your cornea time to heal.

#2 Use Eye Protection

When you are not wearing sunglasses, you should wear another form of eye protection, such as goggles. This will help protect your eyes from anything that may get blown into them by the wind. It will also protect your eyes should someone bump into you.

When you are in the shower, you are going to want to wear your goggles as well. You don't want soap or shampoo to get into your eyes. Wearing goggles will ensure that this doesn't happen.

#3 Limit the Use of Beauty Products

You are not going to want to use facial products. Keep creams and lotions away from your face; you don't want them to get into your eyes.

Refrain from wearing any makeup. Common makeup products, such as eye shadow, mascara, and eye liner, contain small particles that can easily chip off and get into your eyes. This can be particularly irritating when your eyes are trying to heal from surgery.

#4 Get Lots of Rest

Finally, you need to make sure that you get lots of rest. For the first two days that you are home, you should really relax. Don't watch television, read any books, or play around on your computer, smart phone, or tablet. Instead, let your eyes rest. Get as much rest as you can, and when you need to be entertained, listed to a recording of a book or talk with friends. Give your eyes a rest for the first two days from all the usual work that they normally have to do.

About Me

Good Healthcare Requires Treatment of Your Mind, Body, and Soul

I have worked in a supportive role in the medical industry for over 20 years, and I have been amazed at the advances in medicine that have been made. While it is always great to hear about a new medication that helps cure a disease or a new surgical procedure that can help someone live a normal life again after an injury, I have been especially amazed at the research that has shown just how much our physical and mental health are connected. Since I keep on top of all of the amazing medical studies being performed and I know others are too busy to hunt them down themselves, I decided to start a blog to share my favorite health tips for keeping both your mind and body healthy.
