Why Wearing Sunglasses Is More Than Fashion

by Hugh Larson

Sunglasses are more important than just making a fashion statement; they should be worn daily to protect your eyes. In a number of environments, your eyes should be protected, and wearing sunglasses is one way to do just that. If you aren't a fan of sunglasses, read on for reasons that you should be wearing them.

Protect Your Eyes From The Sun

Sunglasses protect your eyes from the sunlight and the harmful rays that could potentially cause cancer. Look for sunglasses with lenses that say they protect against harmful UVA and UVB rays. Any other type of lens isn't going to protect your eyes properly from sunlight. This may cause you to spend a little bit of extra cash on a good pair of sunglasses, but it's worth it in the end. Sunlight can also harm your retinas permanently and leave you with worsening vision. Wear your sunglasses, whether it's a sunshiny or overcast day, as those rays can still come through the clouds and harm your vision.

Protect Your Eyes From Environmental Hazards

Think about a windy day where debris will be blowing around from everywhere. If you aren't wearing your sunglasses to protect your eyes, all types of debris could be getting into your eyes. Your vision could be compromised, your cornea could get scratched, or worse. Wear your sunglasses on windy days to protect your eyes from flying debris. This includes if you are on a motorcycle, driving with the top down, or even just riding a bike. Protect your eyes from flying debris by wearing sunglasses. If you have allergies, sunglasses can also protect your eyes, as you can prevent allergens from flying into your eyes as well.

Improve Vision While Protecting Your Eyes

Prescription sunglasses can help you to see while also protecting your eyes from the sun or other hazards. Talk to your optometrist about getting prescription sunglasses so you can wear your sunglasses even if you are an eyeglass wearer. Take your prescription sunglasses with you wherever you go so you always have them on hand.

Sunglasses do a lot more for you than just give you that cool look. They protect your eyes and your vision. Retina and cornea damage can sometimes be irreversible, and you could lose your sight from the sun or from debris getting into your eyes. Protect your eyes by wearing sunglasses. If you need prescription sunglasses, talk to your optometrist about getting fitted for these types of lenses.

About Me

Good Healthcare Requires Treatment of Your Mind, Body, and Soul

I have worked in a supportive role in the medical industry for over 20 years, and I have been amazed at the advances in medicine that have been made. While it is always great to hear about a new medication that helps cure a disease or a new surgical procedure that can help someone live a normal life again after an injury, I have been especially amazed at the research that has shown just how much our physical and mental health are connected. Since I keep on top of all of the amazing medical studies being performed and I know others are too busy to hunt them down themselves, I decided to start a blog to share my favorite health tips for keeping both your mind and body healthy.
